Donald Trump has disclosed that he will skip the Super Bowl, voicing his criticism of two of the performers slated to appear at the event.
Controversial Halftime Show Performers #
This year’s halftime show for the 60th Super Bowl will feature Puerto Rican sensation Bad Bunny, a choice that has sparked significant backlash from the MAGA supporters. Additionally, Charlie Puth will sing the national anthem, Brandi Carlile is set to perform “America the Beautiful,” and Green Day will lead the opening ceremony.
In an interview with the New York Post on January 24, the former President, who attended last year’s event, stated that he won’t be at Levi’s Stadium on February 8, citing that “it’s just too far away.”
“I’ve always had a great reception at the Super Bowl. They appreciate me,” he remarked. “I would attend if it were closer.” Besides expressing his discontent about the distance, Trump also criticized Bad Bunny and Green Day, who are known for their outspoken opposition to him. “I’m against them,” he commented about the artists.
“It’s an awful choice. All it does is create division. Terrible,” he added.
Backlash and Alternative Events #
Previously, Trump referred to Bad Bunny headlining as “crazy” and claimed he had “never heard of” the rapper. One of his advisors indicated that ICE would be present at the “shameful” concert. Before the announcement, Bad Bunny had informed fans that he would not be touring the U.S. during his global tour due to concerns about ICE agents potentially raiding his shows, remarks that aggravated far-right groups.
In retaliation, the organization Turning Point USA, founded by the late Charlie Kirk, announced an ‘All American Halftime Show’ to occur simultaneously with the NFL halftime performance, featuring Sting.

Despite the backlash, the NFL has stood by its decisions, with Commissioner Roger Goodell reiterating that the choice was “carefully thought through.”
Jay-Z, who serves as the NFL’s music strategist through his partnership with Roc Nation, has come to Bad Bunny’s defense, calling him “truly inspiring.” He expressed pride in having the artist on such a grand stage, and more recently noted skepticism about the authenticity of the backlash, stating: “They love him. Don’t let them fool you.”
In a bold advertisement, Bad Bunny promised that “the world will dance” during his halftime performance.
