Since the announcement of Bad Bunny as the headliner for the Super Bowl Halftime Show scheduled for February, misleading rumors—partly generated by AI—have spread online alleging that the renowned Mexican-American guitarist Carlos Santana opposed the rapper’s performance. Additionally, some claims suggested that Santana had even sought to replace Bad Bunny at the event.
Santana’s Response and Support #
In a statement issued to Billboard, both Santana and his manager categorically dismissed any notion of dissent against Bad Bunny. Santana’s manager criticized the proliferation of AI-generated misinformation: “AI has accelerated the spread of misinformation, making it harder for the truth to break through the noise. Don’t rely on random or unverified posts — even well-meaning outlets can get misled.”

Santana further remarked, “I congratulate and celebrate Bad Bunny’s success and his prestigious position in the world and at the Super Bowl. I deeply resonate with what he’s achieving because art is meant to connect and bring humanity closer to unity and peace.”
“We’re currently navigating a landscape of fear, division, and disparity,” he elaborated. “Such fear fuels misguided individuals to misquote me, suggesting I oppose Bad Bunny’s representation at the Super Bowl. I would never voice such sentiments. To clarify, I stand in complete harmony with Bad Bunny, celebrating his achievements. Any contrary view stems from ignorance.”
“In this era, malevolent forces thrive on creating conflict and division, as they resist unity and joy. They wish for people to be unhappy and preoccupied. I, however, dwell in my heart and celebrate Bad Bunny there. I can’t help but play his song ‘Monaco’ – it possesses a certain magic,” added Santana.
Bad Bunny’s halftime gig has faced backlash from certain right-wing factions, who argue that, despite being from Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, he should not perform at the event. This criticism came swiftly, with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem questioning the NFL’s choice in featuring him, despite the artist being a U.S. citizen.
Moreover, under the Trump administration, ICE agents have been confirmed to be present at the Super Bowl to detain any undocumented immigrants, while the former President himself criticized the decision, labelling it “crazy” and claiming he was “unfamiliar with him.”
The right-wing organization Turning Point USA, founded by notable Trump supporter Charlie Kirk—who was tragically killed last month—has announced an alternative event dubbed the ‘All American Halftime Show’ in resistance to Bad Bunny’s performance, promising forthcoming details and performers.
